Garden Sound Technology
Livingston Sound sound gardens rely on computer control, using software that generates soundscapes in real-time, with dynamic audio processing, filtering and distribution to multiple speakers through custom spatialization algorithms. Typical installations are 12 to 16 independent channels of sound, but others are 24 or 32, with 64 channels for very large garden spaces. The sound comes from an assortment of preferred speaker technologies, plus low-tech solutions that are ideal for the ubiquity and discreetness of sound that are desired in aesthetic outdoor environments. A breakdown of the various garden products and their technology is provided here.
Spatialization
The essence of the garden sound experience is a cocoon of sound created around the listener, blocking out the perception of traffic noise, drawing the listener's experience inward, and aesthetizing the space with sonic layers. The sounds are unobtrusive, always in motion, and tailored to the site and the client preferences. They change with the seasons, with the time of day, with the fading light, to mirror these transitions which are the essence of our love for outdoor spaces. The soundscapes are well suited to a meditation or healing garden, to a Zen space, but also can be triggered into cocktail party mode, for the more upbeat uses of the garden.
Real-time Generation
The second salient aspect of the garden sound technology is that the computer is constantly regenerating soundscapes, with the conception that they have a familiar rhyme, yet never repeat. The ultimate windchime, you might say, tailored to the digital age with a customized aesthetic programmed to meet the client's needs.
